All I wanted to do was eat breakfast.

A man walks in and sits down two chairs away from me at the counter. The waitress meanders over to him, does the same silverware thing to him, then pulls an order pad out of her apron and begins to take his breakfast order. I stand up, pick up my silverware, lean toward the waitress and, excusing myself to them both, hand her the utensils. Then I walk out the door.

Just found myself a nice secluded spot down by the creek, so here I am thinking of you again, as usual. The creek is very wide, and the waters are quite turbulent today. I started out on this hike looking for pussy willows, but when I saw this bench, hurried back for my stationery & book.

I walk into the neighborhood Subway to get lunch. An Indian woman is breast-feeding her baby in full view of the food prep area and all of the other tables. I obviously looked at her, as she was facing the front door at the very first table.

Dick Cavett offers advice to the remaining Presidential candidates

And just about everybody does it better than the capering loon who does soft-shoe in the White House while young Americans are dismembered and splattered in Iraq. Sometimes when he speaks I can forget who he is momentarily and find myself actually pulling for him; probably from misplaced performer empathy. His speechifying has a strong odor of remedial reading about it, combined with an apparent fear that there might be some hard words ahead.
