My Dearest Wife:
Just a few more lines to let you know that I haven’t forgotten you and that I miss you so much. I can hardly wait to see you. But I guess I can stand missing you for a few days more. I will be with you on Christmas. Maybe for only a few minutes but Darling, I love you so much I would come to see you if it was only a few seconds.
I think I told you that Werth was back. You might get to see a lot of the fellows up around there before long.
I am sorry Mary Darling, that I have not found a place for you to stay. I haven’t been out of this place since I have been here. If I could get any time I would look around for a place. I miss you Dearest, as much as you miss me, and I will do all I can to get you a place to stay for I want to be with you all the time.
Mary, the other letters that I received were from Mom and Kenney, Darling. I received another letter from my Darling sweet Wife today. That makes two that I have to answer after I get this one finished. I might just answer all [of] them in one. What would you say, Dopey darling? I can hardly write here tonight every body is talking about going on a pass.
How is the snow up there now? You might have your chance to put snow down my back, but Darling when you do that you better start running for I sure can throw the snow.
How is every body up around there? Tell Jimmy to watch the door, I might walk in just any time.
Dearest, this is a crazy letter but you know how it is writing when a gang is just raising the dickens.
Darling, I am just wishing and waiting till I get to see you. I love you more all the time. I will have to close this now dearest. I am sending you all my love and a lot of kisses.
All my love forever
Your Loving husband
Harry.

Dearest Mary:
Just a few more lines, Mary Darling, to let you know that I love you more all the time. I don’t know what I will do if I do not get to see you before long.
I am well and getting along the best I can. I still have not been able to get the pouch you sent me. I have been busy all day. I am just going to take time tomorrow to get it. I hope that you have received my letters by this time. I received three from you today. They were wrote on the 9th, 10th, and 11th. I have wrote to you every day but one since I left up there.
Every thing that Betty told you is the truth, and it is a lot worse now than when he wrote.
Please Mary Dearest, don’t do like you said you was when you wrote on the ninth. It makes me feel a lot worse if that is possible after being away from my dear wife for so long. It seems like it has been months since I saw you. I haven’t been out of camp since I have been here. No days off or anything. Darling, I would not ever tell you a lie. I have not been out looking for a place or even had a chance to look yet, but sweet I will look as soon as I can get out to. I promise you. I promise you Darling I will look and I will write to you every day as long as we are a part.
Dearest are the girls in Draffins still deviling you? Did you tell her what she wanted to know? When you get asked any question like that again, tell them to get married and find out for their selves. Oh Mary Darling, I want to start that as soon as you do, and I will do all I can to make it soon.
Mary I will send you the money as soon as I get paid. Then you can buy what ever you want. Dearest why didn’t you tell me it was your Mother’s anniversary. I would of sent you some money to [have] bought her a present. I would have had to borrow it but I guess a little late will be better than not at all.
Darling I have something here now that you like. I told you about the package I got from home. Well there was twelve packs of chewing gum in it, and it is all for my own sweet darling wife. I guess you know who that is, don’t you Dopey?
Now Mary what have you been talking about in your sleep. You better tell me or I will write and ask your Mom. Do you think she would tell me? I have a good notion to write and see.
What all has Jimmy been getting into since I have been gone? I miss him a lot. Tell him I will be back to see him some time. I would like to be there when he gets to see his train. I sure bet he will have a time with it, if he is able to get to it for the two big kids that is there close, if you know who I mean and I think you do, “dopey.”
My darling I am keeping account of the kisses you are sending me, so don’t worry. I will add some onto those when I see you.
Dearest, did you hear from home or from my Brother yet? The last letter that I received after I got here from my Brother he said he moved. He said he was in the invasion of the Philippines, so I don’t know where he is now.
Mary dearest I will have to close this for now. Answer as soon as you get time.
Good-By My Dearest.
All My Love for ever
Your Loving Husband
Harry.

I never lie, he tells them, you should know that about me. Beat. But (peering over glasses) are you sure I wasn’t lying just then?

A customer (used loosely, nothing purchased) told me today he’d been “Obamasized,” meaning that he’d lost his job. Huh? This resource (http://tinyurl.com/8a6r64j ) did nothing to clear things up.

My Dearest sweet Wife
Here is a couple lines to let you know that I still love you, and I am well and getting along. I sure hope that you are allright and getting along better than what I am.
This little note, darling, is in answer to the letter that you wrote on the eighth. I am sorry, dearest, to hear that you are behind in your work. I hope that you are caught up on it before you get this.
Have you seen any good shows since I left? If you haven’t, you should get to a show as often as you can, as it will help you pass the time quicker till we can be together and I sure hope that time will not be far off.
The package or what ever you sent me is here in the post office. I received the paper to get it today. I did not have time today, dearest, but I am going to get it as soon as I can tomorrow.
Darling, have you saw Betty since I left? How does she like it since Walter left? I think every body here is just waiting to get back up there.
You know Heaton, don’t you, Darling? He has his papers fixed to get married now and about three more of the fellows are going to as soon as they can. The way it looks now, Mary Darling, Hank and I must of started something.
You are right, Dopey darling, I will not forget about the night I lost you. You will not be like that when I am with you again, will you, dearest?
I was sure glad darling, to hear that you are feeling allright again, and I hope that the other thing you said is not there when I can get to be with you again. It would just be too much. If you know what I mean after being away and missing you so much.
Don’t stay up just to write to me dearest. I would sooner have you getting a lot of sleep and gaining weight than have you losing sleep, but I don’t know what I would do if I did not hear from you.
What is wrong darling, you only sent me one hundred and fourteen kisses in this letter you wrote on the eighth? You must be getting tired of me already. Answer as soon as you can, dearest.
Good-By my Dearest Wife
All my love, now and forever
Your Loving Husband
Harry
