My Precious Darling Wife:
Just a few more lines tonight Mary Darling to let you know that I am allright and getting along O.K. I only hope that these few lines find you feeling allright and getting along fine. I love you with all my heart Darling, and I miss you so awful much. I miss you more than ever now Mary. We can’t mail any letters from here or send any, and that is not so good. Your letters mean so much to me. If we could get mail here, this would be a wonderful place. We get better food here than I ever got in the army before. I don’t believe I ever eat so much steak in such a short time in my life before, and I drink at least a quart of milk at a meal. Darling I don’t know how long we will be here yet for there is a lot to be done on the planes. We got up this morning and took the jeep to chow and then on to work. We waited at the office till 9 o’clock on the Lt. but he never showed up so we went on to work.
The prop man was going back to Orly today so he borrowed the jeep to go back to the office and was supposed to come back in time to take us to chow. We waited till about eleven o’clock, and he never showed up, one of the fellows started to walk back to get it and found it sitting along the road about half way between the hangar and the office. When he was coming after us it just stopped running, so he had to walk back for another one. We got to the office at last, and then had to wait on a ride to the mess hall.
Darling it was about 2 when we went back to the office and then they come with another jeep. We got in it to go to work and it stopped. It was out of gas so Darling, we pushed it about a 1000 feet to the gas truck to get it filled. We sure got a lot of work done this afternoon. We only went out to the plane and put our tools away and then came back to get rations at the P.X. It opened at 3 o’clock. Darling the P.X. closed up today so we got 3 cartons of cigarettes a piece.
Well after we got our rations we got ready and went to town. Darling we had our supper in town and had steak and eggs and potatoes. Busy but it was good. All of us had a carton of cigarettes along and we got 80 coronor for a carton. That is 4 pounds or a little more. I still have 5 more cartons to get rid of. Well Darling after we got rid of the one of the fellows and I started to look for a good movie to go to but they were all filled up. We bought tickets for one tomorrow night so I guess we will go in town tomorrow.
Well Dearest after we got our tickets we started to walk around some more just looking in the windows. We passed a place that had some cakes in the window that sure looked good so Mary we just had to go in and find out if they tasted as good as what they looked and I think they were better. They had whipped cream on top about 1 inch thick with cherries on it. We each had a big piece and a glass of milk. I believed I could eat a whole cake myself. We are going to get some more tomorrow if we can find the place again.
Darling I only wish you could be here with me. I never saw so much things that I would like to buy in my life. I guess I will have to get something before I leave here.
Darling we started to walk along one street and I don’t know how far we went and then turned around to come back and I don’t know where we ended up but I know that it wasn’t where we started. We had to ask a policeman the way. Mary you should of seen us trying to get him to understand what we wanted but he did at last and showed us where to catch a street car to get back.
We got back O.K. and caught the car that comes out the way we stay. We have to walk about a half mile after we git of but we got back about 9:00.
Darling I guess we were in the same fix tonight as we were that day in London.
Mary Darling please don’t worry about me so much. I hear you can’t stop worrying altogether Darling.
I pray that we are together very soon so we can be together all the time. Mary Darling I am thinking of you every second. Darling I am yours forever and I don’t want any thing to do with any other girl. I love you so very, very much, Mary. When we are together for good I am going to be with you so much that you will get tired of me. Darling I have an awful lot of kisses to catch up on. I guess you know that, and there is a lot of other unfinished business to attend to. I miss you in my arms so awful much, Mary Darling.
Please take good care of your self for me, Darling and try not to worry so much about me.
Darling tell Moms, Dad, and Jimmy that I said “Hello.” I miss them all a lot.
My Precious Darling, I will have to close for this time. I pray this finds you allright.
Your loving and very lonely husband.
Harry.
