From the National Geographic website:

Camels cast shadows across the Qala-e-Bost arch in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province. The 11th century arch, which appears on the 100 Afghani note, marks the principal approach to the ancient fortress citadel of Bost, later renamed Lashkar Gah.

Over the centuries, the city bore multiple assaults by the Ghorids, Genghis Khan, and Tamerlane. Today it is the capital of the Helmand province.

Screenings: Shane (1953)

October 10th, 2013 · No Comments

In the opening credits to Shane, Jack Palance is billed as Walter Jack Palance.

When Shane changes from his light blue long-sleeved shirt to his buckskin frontiersman duds, you know he means business.

Shane subplots: homesteaders vs. cattle baron gangs; young boy’s hero worship; gunfighter struggling to suppress his past; love triangle.

I tell Mother I’ve watched Shane again. “Shane, come back!” she cries. I hear her in my ear, miles away, further than the Tetons.
