The Star Spangled Banner. This is the flag that flew over Fort McHenry, in Baltimore, Md., during the attack of the British Fleet in the War of 1812. On September 14, 1814 after a night bombardment, Francis Scott Key saw its 15 stars and 15 stripes still waving “by the dawn’s early light” and penned his poem.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN
This is the portrait that appears on the present five dollar bill. It, like the penny portrait, was taken by Anthony Berger, Matthew Brady’s assistant, on February 9, 1864. The signature is a facsimile from the Bliss Manuscript of the Gettysburg Address; it is a departure from his usual habit of signing “A. Lincoln.” Courtesy of the Library of Congress.
