I also have a really soft spot for Cornershop’s “Good Shit,” if only for its unabashed positive vibe. “Good shit’s all around, good people / Don’t let it get you down, good people / Good shit’s all around, it’s all around.” Repeat. Repeat. And if four-letter words aren’t your thing, the song’s got a groovy cross-cultural shang-a-lang beat going on that I know you won’t be able to resist.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Ron played his own version of Nick Lowe’s “Where’s My Everything?” during his set. He said he’d asked Lowe if he would sing it, Nick told him it wasn’t on his list this tour, so Ron asked if he could sing it.

Music performance alert! 1 July 2008

Ed Harcourt will be performing on The Tonight Show (hosted by Taylor Hicks’ uncle, Jay Leno) this evening! Word from the NBC website states that Harcourt will be playing a song from his amazing ”new” album The Beautiful Lie, which actually was released in 2006…it just took the United States record industry two years to get it out here.

Birmingham News: Owner closes CD store before losing his edge

To his way of thinking, Laser’s Edge reached a peak of sorts on Halloween, during an in-store performance with singer-songwriter Josh Ritter. Although artists ranging from Diana Krall to the Blind Boys of Alabama have played mini-concerts tucked into corners of Laser’s Edge (which has a total of 1,500 square feet), none of them had quite the poignant charm of Ritter’s late-night set.
