The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine
The Great Bronze Doors occupy a distinguished, and unique place in the annals of modern sculpture. Cast and fabricated in Paris by M. Barbedienne, who also cast the Statue of Liberty. One pair shows scenes from the Old Testament; the other from the New. Each of the four valves is six feet wide and eighteen feet high, and each weighs approximately three tons. There are sixty panels in bas-relief on both the outer and inner sides. The stiles and framework are of richly foliated designs.
