Glass: A Portrait of Philip in Twelve Parts

March 19th, 2008 · No Comments

Scott Hicks, who directed the film Shine (about pianist David Helfgott), has spent the last few years creating a documentary portrait of composer Philip Glass.  It has just begun appearing on the film festival circuit.  If the promise shown in this trailer for the film is any indication, the movie will be wonderful.  Sidewalk Film Festival, are you listening?

Thankfully, there appears to be a broad humorous and very human streak running through the film.  Check out Superkid falling off the couch at 1:35 (in the presence of Ravi Shankar) and that hilarious knock-knock joke that I hadn’t heard in years!  This should be a fun film, and a worthy companion to Looking Glass, another documentary about Glass.
